issues of Hawaii Skin Diver to closeout
Casio S.S. Dive Watches. I eventually
sold 170 watches at $120.00 ea.
We could have sold even more, but
Casio completely sold out. I was
amazed, and happily surprised by
the results. (We made enough from
those 2 ads to pay for the next
2 YEARS of advertising in HSD).

I firmly believe that advertising
pays back. It is one of the best
form of investment as long as you
deliver what you promise in the
ads. We are trying our best to keep
the ratio Promise-Delivery at a
high level. Since we started advertising
on HSD we constantly receive calls
for catalogs, questions about our
product etc, from Hawaii. This shows
that the ad is creating a certain
interest and this is a good start.
With the free catalogs the interest
turns into a purchase and the cycle
continues. Therefore the
answer to your question is: YES,
advertising on HSD helps our business.
I like to add that our ads are always
of a great quality: lots of fun,
good graphics and very informative.

Digital Requirements
Hawaii Skin Diver is produced on a
Macintosh system via Quark Xpress
with place Illustrator, Freehand and
Photoshop files. We must receiv files
produced using Quark, along with a
calibrated color proof for color ads,
laser proof for b&w ads, all screen
& printer fonts and images used
in ad. Image scans must be cmyk, 300
ppi at final size. We cannot guarantee
output results of ads not provided
to our specifications. Additional
charges will be billed to modify or
correct supplied files.
Terms
1.
Recognized agencies receive 15 percent
commission on the gross space charge
(after discounts, before tax). Publisher’s
production charges are not commissionable.
No agency commissions will be allowed
on accounts 60 days or more past due.
2. Advertisers may not cancel orders
for, or make changes in advertising
after the space closing dates. Cancellations
must be submitted in writing. Publisher
reserves the right to repeat the last
standing ad or to charge for space
reserved if acceptable copy, files
or materials are not received by deadline.
3. The publisher may reject or cancel
any advertising for any reason at
any time without liability, even though
previously acknowledged or accepted.
Advertisements that simulate HAWAII
SKIN DIVER editorial matter in appearance
or that are not immediately identifiable
as advertisements are not acceptable.
4. All advertisements are accepted
and published upon the representation
by the agency or advertiser that they
are authorized to publish the entire
contents and subject matter thereof
and that such publication will not
violate any law or infringe upon any
right of any party. In consideration
of the publication of advertisements,
the advertiser and agency will, jointly
and severally, indemnify and save
the Publisher harmless from and against
any and all losses and expenses arising
out of the publication of such advertisements,
including, without limitation, those
arising from claims or suits for defamation,
copyright or trademark infringement,
misappropriation, violation of the
Lanham Act or rights of privacy or
publicity, or from any and all similar
claims now known or hereafter devised.
5. Any condition on contracts, orders,
or copy instructions involving the
placement of advertising within an
issue of HAWAII SKIN DIVER (such as
page location, competitive separation,
or placement facing editorial copy
or section) will be treated as a positioning
request only. The Publisher’s
inability or failure to comply with
any such condition shall not relieve
the agency or advertiser of the obligation
to pay for the advertising.
6. It is understood that the advertiser
and agency are jointly and severally
liable for the payment of invoices
for advertising published hereunder
in consideration of the Publisher’s
reviewing for acceptance, or acceptance
of, any advertising for publication,
the agency and advertiser agree not
to make promotion or merchandising
reference to HAWAII SKIN DIVER in
any way except with the prior permission
of the Publisher in each instance.
7. The Publisher shall not be subject
to any liability whatever for any
failure to publish or circulate all
or any part of any issue or issues
because of strikes, work stoppages,
accidents, fires, act of God, or any
other circumstances not within the
control of the Publisher.
8. No terms or conditions, printed
or otherwise, appearing on contracts,
orders, or copy instructions which
conflict with the provisions of this
rate card or which are inserted unilaterally
by the agency or the advertiser will
be binding on the Publisher.
9. HAWAII SKIN DIVER is not responsible
for errors, omissions or other mistakes
of the Publisher or any changes made
after the closing date.
